Tolle classes are free as podcasts

Hey all,

Echkart is presenting classes, as I understand it, each one represents one chapter from A New Earth. The first class is now up as a podcast, 1.5 hours long. I just downloaded it, but haven't watched it yet.

Go to the itunes podcast directory (no charge to go there, if you didn't know that) and click on "Oprah's face". You can download it or subscribe to them for free.

Who'd a thought!?

namaste & blessings,
Matthew

Terrific new spiritual book...

I want to recommend a spiritual book I read recently that I think will resonate with a lot of yTolle readers. I really enjoyed "Lessons from the Source" by Jack Armstrong as a gentle and uplifting book to pick up when you need that deep-down reassurance that you are in God's hands. Like Course in Miracles and Conversations with God, this book was "received" by Armstrong through a process called inner dictation. Lessons is truly a guidebook of the best kind - each chapter reminded me that we are here to enjoy life and instantly brought me gratitude and joy.

There are excerpts and such at: http://www.lessonsfromthesource.com and a Twitter feed of daily inspirational quotes from the book: http://twitter.com/fromthesource.

loneliness

Hello fellow seekers.. I am embracing these teachings fully, I've written blogs (see profile) on my processes but one thing I'd like to put out to this group particularly is this:

Do you find that there are people in your life you can no longer associate with? I find myself questioning who my friends really are and/or not being able to be around certain people any longer. I don't feel the need to explain to them WHY I cannot hang out with them as you cant change them or help them. Which only underlines how alone you are in the world. Which is something we all face at one point or another but usually put out of our minds and create friendships out of need. I no longer have that need but I do feel lonely at times that I cannot share this new awareness with those I have previously shared everything with.

When I'm with my so called "friends" I find myself sometimes falling back into the roles I once played for them.. engaging in their ego driven drama.. creating problems to talk about myself even.. without this, we might not have anything to talk about.. so instead I just find myself avoiding these people all together.

I only hope that now I will begin to attract relationships that are good for me or positive in nature. I believe this will happen eventually but right now, it can feel lonely.

Or, perhaps once I get to a certain strength spiritually, I will be able to communicate with these people again.. on what level that will be I dont know.

About "Frequency Holders"

Here is what Eckhart Tolle says about what he terms "Frequency Holders."

“Others, after the natural expansion that comes with growing up has run its course, lead an outwardly unremarkable, seemingly more passive and relatively uneventful existence. They are more inward looking by nature, and for them the outward movement into form is minimal. They would rather return home than go out.

“Some of them find it hard to fit into this world. Some are lucky enough to find a protective niche where they can lead a relatively sheltered life, a job that provides them with a regular income or a small business of their own.

"In past ages, they would probably have been called contemplatives. There is no place for them, it seems, in our contemporary civilization. On the arising new earth, however, their role is just as vital as that of the creators, the doers, the reformers. Their function is to anchor the frequency of the new consciousness on the planet. I call them frequency-holders. They are here to generate consciousness through the activities of daily life, through their interactions as well as through 'just being.'

“In this way, they endow the seemingly insignificant with profound meaning. Their task is to bring spacious stillness into this world by being absolutely present in whatever they do. There is consciousness and therefore quality in what they do, even the simplest task. Their purpose is to do everything in a sacred manner. As each human being is an integral part of the collective human consciousness, they affect the world much more deeply than is visible on the surface of their lives."

Eckhard Tolle - "A New Earth"

How many of us fall into the category of a "frequency holder?" :-)

After reading The Power Of Now and hearing interviews with Tolle, I'm finding that his message is one that has been spoken of by many other prophets in the past -- and not just Buddha or Jesus or Lao Tzu. For example, here's one I came across today from Ralph Waldo Emerson:

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters to what lies within us.”

Have any of you come across quotes and/or peope that echo Tolle's message?

Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment

Dear Group Members,

I want to share an article with you. This is about the link between Mind and Social / Environmental-Issues. The article is also directly related to Consciousness, Awareness, Silence, Stillness and Meditation. The article explains why it is so difficult to control the Mind in today's fast society where attention-spans are down to nanoseconds, microseconds and milliseconds. All issues are interlinked. Our Minds can never be spiritual or peaceful if we destroy Nature.

Thank you,
Sushil Yadav

[ My background is given in the first letter ( letter No. 1 ) under the
topic " Correspondence with neuroscientists " on the website :
www.netshooter.com/emotion ]

MAIN ARTICLE & EXPERIMENT

Please note : The article has been written in short sentences rather than paragraph-form because it is about subjective experience / emotion/ reduction of thought.

Industrial Society Destroys Mind and Environment.

Subject : In a fast society slow emotions become extinct.
Subject : A thinking mind cannot feel.
Subject : Scientific/ Industrial/ Financial thinking destroys the planet.
Subject : Environment can never be saved as long as cities exist.

Emotion is what we experience during gaps in our thinking.

If there are no gaps there is no emotion.

Today people are thinking all the time and are mistaking thought (words/ language) for emotion.

When society switches-over from physical work (agriculture) to mental work (scientific/ industrial/ financial/ fast visuals/ fast words ) the speed of thinking keeps on accelerating and the gaps between thinking go on decreasing.

There comes a time when there are almost no gaps.

People become incapable of experiencing/ tolerating gaps.

Emotion ends.

Man becomes machine.

A society that speeds up mentally experiences every mental slowing-down as Depression / Anxiety.

A ( travelling )society that speeds up physically experiences every physical slowing-down as Depression / Anxiety.

A society that entertains itself daily experiences every non-entertaining moment as Depression / Anxiety.

FAST VISUALS /WORDS MAKE SLOW EMOTIONS EXTINCT.

SCIENTIFIC /INDUSTRIAL /FINANCIAL THINKING DESTROYS EMOTIONAL CIRCUITS.

A FAST (LARGE) SOCIETY CANNOT FEEL PAIN / REMORSE / EMPATHY.

A FAST (LARGE) SOCIETY WILL ALWAYS BE CRUEL TO ANIMALS/ TREES/ AIR/
WATER/ LAND AND TO ITSELF.

I am trying to get the following experiment conducted in a psychophysiology/ bio-chemistry laboratory.

There is a link between visual / verbal speed ( in perception, memory,
imagery ) and the bio-chemical state of the brain and the body.

Emotion can intensify / sustain only when visual and verbal processing
associated with the emotion slows down ( stops / freezes ).

The degree of difficulty of an emotion depends upon the degree of
freezing (of visuals and words ) required to intensify and sustain that
particular emotion.

Experiment:

Subjects (preferably actors specialising in tragedy / tragic roles )
will be asked to watch a silent video film showing any of the
following:-

(1) Human suffering.
(2) Animal suffering.
(3) Suffering ( Destruction ) of Air / Water / Land / Trees.

Subjects will be asked to intensify and sustain the subjective feeling of pain/ grief for the sufferer.

The chemical changes associated with the emotion in the body(blood) would be measured by appropriate methods.

The silent video film will be shown at different speeds :
(1) 125% of actual speed.
(2) Actual/real speed.
(3) 75% of actual speed.
(4) 50% of actual speed.
(5) 25% of actual speed.

Results :

(1) Intensity of emotion increases with the decrease in visual speed.
(2) Intensity of emotion is maximum when visual speed is minimum (25%
of actual speed)

(3) The amount of chemical change associated with the emotion in the
body(blood) will be found to increase with the decrease in visual speed.

(4) The chemical change is maximum when visual speed is minimum.
(5) The amount of chemical change will increase with the decrease in
breathing rate. Breathing becomes so slow and non-rhythmic that it stops
for some time at the inhalation/ exhalation stages.

The above co-relations will be valid for all subjects -even for those who cannot feel pain/ grief. Such subjects will experience emotion associated with boredom/ discomfort/ restlessness/ irritability/ uneasiness. The chemicals released will be different but the co-relation between visual speed and amount of chemical will be same( the breathing rates will be different/ fast).
All subjects will experience some kind of emotion.

[If scientists can discover 4000 different chemicals in cigarette-smoke then they can certainly detect the few chemicals released in blood when we experience higher-level emotions like pain, empathy, compassion, remorse etc… ]

In the 2nd stage of experiment we shall replace the silent video film with a Narrator ( Audio only ) and repeat the procedure thereby establishing the link between intensity of emotion and verbal speed. The narrator will slow down verbal speed by-- speaking slowly, stretching words, repetition of words/ sentences & making use of
pause/ silence between words.

Please note:
(1) A THINKING MIND CANNOT INTENSIFY / SUSTAIN ANY EMOTION.
While this statement is generally true for all emotions, it is
particularly true for all painful emotions.

(2) In a society in which visual ( verbal ) speed and breathing- rates
are fast , pain / remorse / empathy cannot be experienced. It is
impossible.

PROOF.
Proof of the link between pain and slow visuals / words :-

In the last century man has made thousands of movies / films on various
themes / subjects. Whenever pain / tragedy is shown in any film the
visuals ( scenes ) and words ( dialogues ) are always slowed down. In
many films tragedy is shown in slow motion. At the most intense moment
of pain the films almost become static / stationary.

Tragedy-films provide direct proof / evidence of the link between pain
and slowness.

Pain can intensify / sustain only when visual ( and verbal ) speed slows
down( stops/ freezes).

CHANGE IN VISUAL SPEED OVER THE YEARS

One thousand years ago visuals would change only when man physically
moved himself to a new place or when other people ( animals / birds )
and objects ( clouds / water ) physically moved themselves before him.

Today man sits in front of TV / Computer and watches the rapidly
changing visuals / audio.

He sits in a vehicle ( car / train / bus ) and as it moves he watches
the rapidly changing visuals.

He turns the pages of a book / newspaper / magazine and sees many
visuals / text in a short span.

CHANGE IN VERBAL SPEED OVER THE YEARS

In ancient times verbal processing was “live” in nature—ie it happened when people actually spoke.
Today there is non-stop verbal processing inside the mind through print and electronic media ( newspapers, books, magazines, radio, television, computer etc…) as a result of which the verbal content & speed has increased thousands of times.

The speed of visuals ( and words ) has increased so much during the last
one hundred years that today the human brain has become incapable of
focussing on slow visuals /words through perception, memory, imagery.

If we cannot focus on slow visuals / words we cannot experience emotions
associated with slow visuals /words.

Before the advent of Industrial Revolution Man's thinking was primarily
limited to :

(a) visual processing ( slow visuals )
(b) verbal / language processing ( slow words )

Today there are many kinds of fast thinking :

(1) visual processing ( fast visuals )
(2) verbal / language processing ( fast words )
(3) Scientific / Technical thinking ( fast )
(4) Industrial thinking ( fast )
(5) Business thinking ( fast )

(3), (4) & (5) ARE ASSOCIATED WITH NUMBERS / SYMBOLS / EQUATIONS /
GRAPHS /CIRCUITS / DIAGRAMS / MONEY / ACCOUNTING etc…

As long as the mind is doing this kind of thinking it cannot feel any
emotion - not an iota of emotion.

In a fast society slow emotions become extinct.
In a thinking ( scientific / industrial ) society emotion itself becomes extinct.

EMOTION IS WHAT REMAINS IN THE MIND WHEN VISUAL /VERBAL PROCESSING SLOWS
DOWN (STOPS/ FREEZES )

There are certain categories of people who feel more emotion (subjective experience ) than others.

If we attempt to understand why (and how ) they feel more emotion we can learn a lot about emotion.

Writers, poets, actors, painters ( and other artists )

WRITERS
Writers do verbal ( and associated visual) processing whole day- every day.
They do slow verbal ( and associated visual) processing every day.
(A novel that we read in 2 hours might have taken 2 years to write. This is also the reason why the reader can never feel the intensity & duration of emotion experienced by the writer )

POETS
Poets do verbal ( and associated visual ) processing whole day- every day.
There is more emotion in poetry than in prose.
This happens because there are very few words ( and associated visuals ) in poetry than in any other kind of writing.
There is a very high degree of freezing / slowing down of visuals & words in poetry.

ACTORS
Actors do verbal ( and associated visual ) processing whole day- every day. During shooting / rehearsal they repeat the dialogues ( words ) again and again ( the associated visuals / scenes also get repeated along with the dialogues )

PAINTERS
Painters do visual ( and associated verbal ) processing whole day- every day.
They do extremely slow visual processing - The visual on the canvas changes only when the painter adds to what already exists on the canvas.

There are some important points to be noted :

All these people do visual & verbal processing - whole day - every day.
They do slow visual & verbal processing.
They do not do scientific / industrial / business processing whole day - every day.

Most of the city people doing mental work either do this kind of mental processing which is associated with NUMBERS / SYMBOLS/ Equations / Graphs / CIRCUITS / DIAGRAMS / MONEY / ACCOUNTING etc… or they do fast visual ( verbal ) processing whole day - every day.

This kind of thinking ( processing ) has come into existence only during the last 200 years and has destroyed our emotional ability ( circuits ).

SELF-ASSESSMENT OF ( SUBJECTIVE ) INTENSITY OF EMOTION IS ALMOST ALWAYS
WRONG.

Suppose the maximum intensity(and duration) of a particular emotion that
can be experienced by any human being is 100 units.

Let us suppose the maximum intensity(and duration) of that particular emotion ever
experienced by two people A & B in their entire life is :
A - 100units
B - 20 units

Now suppose A & B are made subjects on a particular day and are asked
to feel that particular emotion under experimental conditions ( or
outside the laboratory ) and the intensity &duration they actually experience is
:

A - 90 units
B - 18 units

If A & B are then asked to indicate the intensity &duration of emotion on a scale
of 0 -10 their response is likely to be ;

A - 9
B - 9

Who is right and who is wrong ?
A is right.
B is wrong - B is wrong by a wide margin - B has experienced an
intensity(and duration) of 18 units out of a maximum of 100 units and his correct /
actual score should be 1.8

Self- assessment ( self rating ) can be accurate only if people have
the capacity to experience the highest intensity &duration ( units ) of the
particular emotion under study.

Because of physical work and slow visual/verbal processing in small(slow)agriculture based societies of the past, the mind used to experience a state of emotion all the time. If we read one thousand-year-old literature we will not come across the term "boredom" -the concept of boredom did not exist in slow societies. There were long gaps between different visuals and between words/ sentences -and people had the ability to experience/ tolerate the gaps -it was normal for them.

Emotion can intensify / sustain only when visual / verbal processing slows down ( stops / freezes ). In an Industrial (thinking) society people experience very little emotion because of fast ( visual / verbal / scientific / industrial / business ) thinking

Suppose the maximum intensity and duration of a particular emotion ( for most people ) in a fast society has reduced to 5 units ( from 100 units that people used to experience in earlier /slower societies ).

If such people experience 4 units of emotion they will give themselves a
rating /score of 8 on a scale of 0-10 whereas their actual score should
be 0.4

IN A FAST SOCIETY SLOW EMOTIONS BECOME EXTINCT.

IQ Vs EQ

IQ always has an element of change in it – IQ is about trying to make/ discover/ invent something new all the time.
Change is an inherent feature of IQ.
IQ is also about thinking more in less time—it involves speeding up of mind. Someone who does more mathematics in less time is considered more intelligent in mathematics. IQ is about change and speed.

EQ is about sustainment of the same feeling/experience over a period of time. When we experience any higher-level emotion for 10 minutes we experience the same feeling( subjective experience) over and over again for 10 minutes.
The( same) feeling can sustain only if there is Repetition.
EQ involves Repetition—Constancy—Sameness.

IQ and EQ are contradictory.
IQ and EQ are opposites.
IQ and EQ are inversely proportional.

(1) A thinking species destroys the planet.
(2) Animals lived on earth for billions of years (in very large numbers)
without destroying nature.
(3) They did not destroy nature because their thinking / activity was
limited to searching for food for one time only.
(4) Man has existed on earth in large numbers for only a few thousand
years / a few hundred years.
(5) Within this short period Man has destroyed the environment.
(6) This destruction took place because of Man's thinking.
(7) When man thinks he makes things.
(8) When he makes things he kills animals / trees / air / water / land.
( Nothing can be made without killing these five elements of nature ).

(9) A thinking species destroys the planet.

Intelligence Is A Curse.

This planet is on the verge of total destruction.

The cause of destruction is – overactivity.
[Out of millions of species in this world the human-species is the only one that has indulged in overactivity]

The cause of overactivity is – Intelligence.
[The environment would never have got destroyed if Man had been only as intelligent as animals]

Intelligence is the biggest cause/ source of destruction in this world.

[In fact Intelligence is the only cause of destruction in this world other than natural causes]

MENTAL WORK IS INJURIOUS TO THE MIND AND PLANET.

There is no higher purpose behind work.

People do not work because they want to work.
People work because they cannot stop working.

People cannot stop physical activity and mental activity (simultaneously) for even 2 minutes.

For most people it is a choice between physical and mental work.
The switch-over from physical work to mental work is disastrous for the planet.

Man can do the same physical work every day.
Man cannot do the same mental work every day.

When man used to do physical work ( farming and related activities ) he could do the same repetitive work day after day- generation after generation.

After the Industrial Revolution when man switched-over to mental work he
began a never ending process of making new machines / things / products--
a process which can only end with the complete destruction of environment ( planet ).

The nature of mental work is such that man has to do new mental work every day- in fact he has to do new mental work every moment- Man cannot repeat in the next moment the mental work that he has already done in the previous moment.

A mathematician cannot solve the same problem of mathematics every day- once he has solved it he will be forced to take up a new( unsolved) problem. Even when he is solving one particular problem he has to move from one step to another - there is a continuous change involved -- there is no constancy at any stage.

An engineer cannot design the same machine again and again –once he has made a machine he will try to make changes/ design a new one.

A writer cannot write the same article every day- he will be forced to write something new every day/ every moment (This is also the reason behind endless discussions/ debates/ arguments).

Discussions, Debates and Arguments.

Let us examine how much discussion we are collectively having in Industrial Society every day.

Millions of pages in print – newspapers / books / magazines.
Millions of web-pages on internet every day.

Now add to this all the conversation (discussion) we are having through radio / television / telephone and several other media every day.

And add to this all the discussion we are having through face-to-face interaction.

The volume of discussion per individual in one week is greater than the total discussion someone living in pre-industrial society would have in his entire life.

There is too much discussion in modern society.
Discussion is not solving our problems – discussion itself has become a problem – a gigantic problem.

A society that does mental work will discuss itself to destruction [extinction]

A society that does mental work will argue itself to destruction [extinction]

A society that does mental work will debate itself to destruction [extinction]

A society that does mental work can never stop discussions / debates / arguments – it is impossible.
It will discuss / debate / argue till the last moment of it’s existence.

Discussions / Debates / Arguments – these are creations of a society that has switched-over from physical work to mental work.

Discussions / Debates / Arguments – these are diseases of a society that has switched-over from physical work to mental work.

Discussions / debates / arguments can end only in agriculture-based societies that do physical work.

We cannot do physical-work and mental-work simultaneously.

There is an inverse relationship between physical-work and mental-work.
If one is high [more] the other has got to be low [less]

If we want to do physical work we have to reduce mental activity by the same proportion.
If we want to do mental work we have to reduce physical activity by the same proportion.

There is very little discussion / debate / argument in societies that do physical work - ie, agriculture-based societies - And this is the reason why they are millions of times saner than industrial societies.

Change is an inherent feature of mental work.

Since change is an inherent feature of mental work - a society that does mental work can never be at peace with itself – it is impossible.

A society that does mental work will always be restless.

Only those societies that do physical work [agriculture and related activities] can find contentment and peace.

AS LONG AS CITIES EXIST WE CAN NEITHER SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT NOR THE MIND.

To save the [ remaining ] environment from destruction man will have to
return back to physical work [ smaller communities ].

To save the mind from mental diseases man will have to return back to
physical work [ smaller communities ].

Criminality and Abnormality.

Industrial Society has collectively killed billions of Animals and Trees [ Remember -plant and animal species developed over a period of millions of years]

It has also killed most of Water and Air [ Please note - polluting Water and Air is equivalent to killing Water and Air ]

The soil was not fertile when the earth was created. It became fertile - very slowly - over a period of millions of years. And look what man has done - He has covered millions and millions of hectares of land with cement and concrete. All the land that has been covered with cement and concrete has been killed.

Man has stockpiled thousands of tonnes of highly radioactive nuclear material and nuclear waste which is going to remain highly radioactive and carcinogenic for the next thousands of years - and which has already leaked into the environment hundreds of times.

What could be more criminal than this.
What could be more abnormal than this.

Lawyers and Judges are trying to catch a few criminals.
They don’t realize the entire Industrial Society is criminal.

Psychologists and Psychiatrists are trying to classify a few people as abnormal.
They don’t realize the entire Industrial Society is abnormal.

Industrial Society is collectively making millions of tonnes of weapons and explosives [of all kinds] every year – and then it wonders why there is so much violence in this world.

Big Mystery.

If you make millions of tonnes of weapons and explosives on earth they are going to be used on earth – they are not going to be used on Mars.

There was a time when Man knew nothing about the number of species and
millions of species existed.
Today Man knows the names of millions of species and nothing is left of
the species.

After destroying millions of highly-developed species on earth Man is today searching for a few molecules of life in outer-space.

If a few microbes, a few molecules of methane / water are found on Mars - it becomes the newspaper headline.

They call it progress.

The following is about to come true.

Nature can exist

(1) before man.
(2) after man.
(3) not with man.

Environment can be saved only if we stop production of most [ more than
99% ] of the consumer goods we are making today.

ENVIRONMENT CANNOT BE SAVED BY RECYCLING

THE ATTEMPT OF AN INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY TO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT BY RECYCLING IS LIKE SHOOTING SOMEONE
10,000 TIMES AND THEN TRYING TO SAVE HIM BY TAKING OUT ONE BULLET.

Time is running out for this planet.

Yours Sincerely,
Sushil Yadav

Please note :

Fast emotions = emotions associated with fast visuals/fast words/fast breathing/fast heart-rate.
Slow emotions = emotions associated with slow visuals/slow words/slow breathing/slow heart-rate.
Rate of thinking = number of visuals/words processed per minute.
Gaps between thinking = gaps between visuals/ words/ sentences.

I am seeking help from volunteers in spreading this message far and wide.

Time in Awareness

What could be an accurate model or representation of the human organism? Quite often, when we think or feel about ourselves or others around us, we do so in terms of entities or images that have attributes/characteristics which may or may not change under situational/environmental demands. However, what we realize in practice, is that this model is quite inadequate and falls short of accurately portraying and predicting our own as well as others' behavior. Despite the shortfall, the human organism continues to rely on thoughts, senses, and emotions as arbiters of measurement of reality. Through out our lives, we struggle because we believe that somehow we are insufficient or lacking in abstracting the "right" representation and if we "analyze" or "look deeper, further, and harder", we will be able to eventually "perceive" the correct model/image.

But what are we "perceiving?" The human organism is activated/moved/motivated by several interactions of its sense, which are themselves a representational memory of its evolutionary past and its faculties of thought and emotion, which are yet again, based on memory. These senses and faculties, collect nourishment, both physically and psychologically, from within and without to sustain themselves and hence, the whole organism. We can conceive and actually see human beings lacking in one or two senses or faculties (emotional autism, severe mental retardation, etc.) but usually consider one a "vegetable" if one is deprived of all of them.

As we modulate in time from blastula to apoptosis or senescence, these senses and faculties, individually and collectively, cooperate and compete, within a dynamic range of response. And because our thought has predetermined categories within this modulation, and has come up with milestones of health, we assume that as long as those milestones are reached, somehow, there must be an over-riding coherence in all of this - a "homeostasis" within and perhaps, by inference, without. But really, is there such as thing as "homeostasis" outside of human thought?

A physically healthy person by measures of medicine may be psychologically brimming with anger, jealousy, greed, craving, etc., and vice versa. Again, we have created measures of how much greed, selfishness, jealousy is "normal." Senses quite often override chemical and physical devastation of organ systems within, with the result that the person is oblivious to silent diseases with in and is "acting" to promote them, e.g., diabetus, cancer, heart disease, etc. These senses could also be influenced by thought and emotions and vice versa. So amongst this melee of the past attempting to exert its influence on the present, what is the raison d'etre of awareness?

Notice awareness is the only thing (whatever one wants to call it, faculty, sense, or something else) unique that actually delineates time but not as we know it. This may sound ironic but really there is no "now" without awareness. Time is a continuum for all the other senses and faculties. We may say, present, past, and future but really, what is present but the past? What is future but the present modified by the past? The senses and faculties do not stop at "now" or "given an impulse" react. They are continually responding in time - continually. Life does not present experiments like in the animal laboratories to look at responses within truncated intervals of chronological time and prepare conclusions on powerpoint as if the immediate past is separate from the distance or geological past and the immediate future separate from the geological future.

So everything within a human or a living organism is a continuous function in time, which itself is a created entity of how thought perceives "awareness." When we "become conscious of the now" into which the senses and faculties of thought and emotion are flowing, that is what can create a "stepping out of time", out of the flow, heck out of the continuity. That awareness has NO past or future as we define time. It is only NOW! The mistake our faculty of thought does is to categorize the uncategorizable "now" and create a psychological and chronolgical past prior to "now" and a future post "now". But really, all such time is simply non-awareness.

In the NOW, a branch of a huge tree can be aware of the hundreds of distinctive other branches both within and other "types" of trees, and see, that while to the senses and the faculties of thought and emotion, all appear different, they point to not only a seed from which all have arisen but to a continuity in time from which all seeds had to have taken birth. A reflection of this can only be a concept but only in awareness can a being act to live as a whole within and without.

If we create our own reality why would anyone create a reality with such painful relationships?

I am trying to become very conscious of the relationships I create in my life. And I find that most of them are not fulfulling. Have I created these unfulfulling relationships for myself for some particular purpose? Is it me who needs to change to somehow change my perspective on these relationship and maybe find the "good" parts and appriciate them? Or do I need to create new relationships?
For instance ( this may make me seem pretty bad) I dated a guy for 9 months that I knew was not right for me. He's a nice guy, just not at all what I need. It was so unfulfulling but I clung to it for way too long. Now I find myself so angry with him for not fulfulling my need. I still don't know why I would create this relationship where i would be so angry at this guy for simply not being what I need.
I also have a friend I thought I was close too but lately it just grates on me as she goes on and on about herself and hardly asks me anything about me. 4 months ago, these people were the closest people in my life, my boyfriend and my best friend, now niether relationship is satisfying. Are my expectations out of line? Do I work on tweaking these relationships until they are more satisfying? How do I created new relationship full of meaning and respect?

Now&Wow: The Being In The Now Reminder and Oracle Message Tool

Dear all,
I'm very inspired by Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now, but find it not always easy to be conscious an in the now as often as possible. Especially while working and using my PC hours pass by, without any NOW-feeling.

Therefore I created a tool, which I now present in my website http://www.nowwow.org.

I call the tool Now&Wow: The Being In The Now Reminder Tool. It works like an alarm and reminds you at certain time intervals in a very attractive an smoothly way to be still and feel your body. Sometimes you get a well deserved Oracle message too. Maybe you find it interesting.

A happy Now&Wow!

Mind Interference before sleep

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I'm trying to find a place to pose an interesting question. I have been working on transcending the mind for a couple of years now, and im doing pretty well. The power of now has helped me allot.

One thing I have been noticing is that when I go to bed my mind is very active at trying to create false identities out of things my mind is not able to let go off. Certain things happen throughout the day that some how build up and then when I go to sleep my mind will try to play out scenarios where could have or should have done something different.. It usually has to do with challenges to my self that I faced though out the day.

For instance, I'm taking an English class at the junior college where I live, I know the teacher because i have taken an English class with him before and I like the teacher. He is a pretty conservative guy, I'm finding myself ad odds with some of the things he is teaching in his class. mainly the idea that our writing wont be taken seriously if we dont base everything on facts. I agree to a certain extent that when you are writing about real world things you do need to cite factual data. But I also know that writing about abstract ideas is just as interesting and can still be pursued as a valid topic. Its unfortunate because when ever any of us try to talk about abstract ideas, or about how certain points of view are largely relative or Dependant on how one thinks about the world. Also how ones view determines what one experiences in his world. He doesn't think these issues are valid to the topic we are discussing and steers the discussion away from it. Not sure what to do about this but I am thinking about talking to him in private.

Anyway when I go to sleep my mind trys to invent scenarios that give me enough leverage to convince him that he is not being open to other possibilities that exist outside of what he knows. And it doesn't stop, I bring my attention back to my breathing and my mind keeps coming back to creating scenarios where I can help him see that there is more to life than what we can perceive from our regular senses... and I Know this is not my job BTW.. but I find myself not be able to sleep because of all these little things that my mind wont let go off.

Does anyone have any ideas about how I can handle this, Id like to be at peace when I go to bed but my mind races with things that it feels it needs to resolve...

Days of our Lives

We notice our attachment to sex, people, alcohol, pleasure, pain when we are separated from attachment, either in our imagination or in reality, not a moment sooner. The harsh truth, perhaps, the only truth is that we can count on the death of all, the attachment, the attaching identity, and the object of attachment. At first glance, it seems like these are related but somewhat separate entities, i.e., me (that could be the subject and the object of attachment), attachment, and the other as the object of my attachment. We realize the separation between the object of our attachment through out our lives and therefore, perhaps, desperately engage in "attaching" it to our identity so that it could live with us as part of our "selves." In fact, in our language, we turn the noun object into one describing our properties. So, we move from 'I smoke cigarettes." to "I am a smoker", "I love you" to "I am her spouse", "I hate you" to "He is MY enemy." We can see the process unfold clearly when we are the object of someone's desire and attachment and do not share the feeling and are being made part of their identity.

If we retrospectively view our lives, we may notice that sometimes the object of attachment changes from sex, material pleasures, to religious rituals (meditation) but the attachment remains the same. We may explain it as a change inside of us or we may say that the context, the circumstances, or , especially if it is a person we are attached to has changed and hence, our object. But are these three seemingly separate entities separate or the same thing unfolding? Are both attachment and the object of attachment part of all entities? A necessary part of evolution so that life can progress in an accumulative way?

Every being attaches itself in a way that becomes part of the other being. Even the use of the term "attaches itself" seems inaccurate. The meeting of two beings would necessitate the continuation of both via attachment of some significance to each other via fear, detachment, or obsession not just consciously but also at an unconscious and instinctive level. So the process of attachment may seem to be not separate from the subject in which it is taking place. But is there a fundamental difference between attachment to beings and objects such as cars, gadgets, etc.? Not remarkably. Objects of our thoughts created as religious or material goods already come with some significance and can alter us equally well. This significance is not fixed just like in the case of living entities, but changes through out our lives. Of course, the one basic difference is that we are of no significance to the objects of our thoughts unlike entities not created by our thoughts.

Now the interesting thing is that the moment a significance is attached from fear, detachment, to obsession to any of the objects (created or otherwise), the entity doing the attachment is altered in a real physiological sense. There is a response born within that can range from merely endocrinological to physical action. That significance is then held within us in our cellular memories for similar instances in the future. In this sense, all has been reduced to one. The subject, the object, and the process - reduced to cellular memory for sometimes simply the image of the object would suffice in recreating the response. When we die, our cellular memories and significances, and the images that they respond to die with us; however, our living has altered the significance for others already and even our deaths may change the significance and cellular memories in others. We see that when people respond differently at the death of a tyrant or a benevolent leader. Again, all has been reduced to one.

While physical death is certain for each one of us, we can be equally certain that our lives and deaths would alter some other entity and hence, this living planet, beyond our conscious will, thought, or effort to do so. This prompts us to look deeply into the birth of meaning of any kind, conscious, instinctive, or unconscious, for it seems to have enormous implications. How does it come to be? Is it essential and synonymous to living? Is meaning the essence of differentiation? And is differentiation the essence of form?

Form differs and prefers, but it also trans-forms continually; infact, all three are equally vivid properties of form: to differentiate, to prefer, and to trans form. They all imply a fluidity with which evolution proceeds. If life, consciously or unconsciously gets stuck in one by attaching significance to preference or separation/differentiation or transformation without looking at what is, well, we all know what that is like. That is the days of our lives!

What is Enlightenment?

Enlightenment is the bliss of knowing where you are coming from and where you are going to and why. You are coming from and going to infinite perfection. Enlightenment is understanding that your purpose is to give and receive unending fulfillment. Enlightenment is also understanding that how this is accomplished cannot be reasoned because the means of accomplishing this feat is to abandon reason. To be filled one must first become empty. It can only be said that you cast away your oneness (this is where you give and this is where the illusion begins). Because this is just an illusion, being in this imperfect state cannot last forever. The result is that when it ends, you awaken to the joy and peace of your unchanged infinite perfection (this is where you receive and this is where the illusion ends). This cycle is infinite.

Note to Self: You are God

Note to self:

You are god. This may seem very egotistical, but actually it becomes clear that it’s just the opposite as you come to understand the next statement.

You are alone. This does not mean that you loose your family, friends and loved ones that gave you so much comfort throughout your life; it just means that they were never separate from you to begin with. They are within you.

Your mind creates the world around you.

When you die you do not dissolve back into the world around you but instead the world dissolves back into your mind.

When you come into this world you have departed from reality into a world of illusion. You have departed from the real and eternal into the unreal and temporary. This is a paradox because you never really left in the first place. There is no reason for this journey because by its very nature something that is untrue is also unreasonable and so it is that there can be no answer to the question why. It is simply natural that you are not perfect in this world and that you grow old and die. These are the characteristics of that which is not true.

Your higher self (God) is no more concerned about this process than you are concerned about falling asleep at night or expelling a breath. In fact, this process is the breath of life itself and eternal awakening.

With love,

You

This is just my attempt to lay out some thoughts. I have posted this in several other places like casting out a net to see what kinds of different perspectives I could get from people of different interests. It is just a starting point. My goal was to take my thoughts about a very broad and complex topic and try to distill them down to as few words as possible. The intention is that as the reader reads it they are speaking the words to themselves and considering the correctness or incorrectness of each statement. I thought it would be interesting to try to write something in such a way that as I am speaking to another I am also speaking to myself. It’s like standing between two mirrors and seeing reflections of yourself facing away from you stretching off into infinity and leaning forward to whisper a message into your own ear.

My thought is that God is alone. If you think of God as simply that creative force that creates things, and if you think of the space in which these things are created as a mind, then what would you call these things that have been created? I think that you would call them imaginary. This is why I say that God is alone and that all of creation is just imaginary.

I have more thoughts about these things in the blog on my profile. Please check it out if you get a chance.

I recently broke up with someone and have been feeling sad on and off. But sometimes I hear in my hear in my head: I am quiet sad. And then I think : really I don't feel that sad, I wonder why I am hearing that voice say I am so sad.
Could this be my pain-body trying to keep me being sad?
I actually feel fine right now. But I want to be able to be honest with myself if I really am sad.
It's hard to tell.
Perhaps it's the battle in my head for positivity and negativity too. But I feel like something is there trying to keep the sadness, trying to depress me. When I don't want to be depressed anymore.
Any ideas would be appriciated.

hello
The first chapter of my book after 25 years of research has within it the keys to IMMORTALITY IN PREPARATION FOR ASCENSION.
FROM CHAPTER ONE TAKE X the healing factor , apply it to the blood , body and brain, this will make the human body all positive and Immortal, once you have read the book , contact me for the 3 ways it will be done…2 slow , 1 on mass.....(via a pyramid using the Sun and Sirius energy on the dog days).... the the pyramids will be opened later on FOR LIGHT WORKERS,I hope you understand what I am saying...................Tell all your light worker friends to get the book as I am a Light Worker myself, who has been presented now with the understandings of immortality ,which I must give to other light workers. This is the information you have to pass on for the good of all light workers.
I recommend my book ORMUS FROM AUTHORHOUSE
www.authorhouse.com/BookStor...alog.aspx
ORMUS, ORME....WHITE GOLD ...The manna, the white powder of gold, is the food, the light, one takes into their body. It is the FOOD OF THE GODS. A modern day Rabbi might tell you that no one has known how to make the manna, the white powder of Gold, since the destruction of the Temple of Solomon. The technique is, supposedly, a lost art or lost knowledge. But others argue that when the high priests left the Temple (when it was destroyed), the took the secret out into the desert and organized a commune called Qumrun. There, they became the Essenes. Eventually, the white powder was used to nourish a woman named Mary, and eventually, she gave birth to a man named Jesus.
These gifts include: perfect telepathy, the ability to know good and evil when it’s present, and to project thoughts into another person’s mind. There is also the ability to levitate, or to walk on water. By excluding all external magnetic fields (including the Earth’s gravity), the white powder of gold takes one beyond the four dimensional space time continuum, and the individual becomes a fifth dimensional being. They can literally think where they would like to be, and go there. They can heal by the laying on of hands, and can cleanse and resurrect the dead within two or three days after they died. They have so much energy that they can literally embrace people and bring light and energy back into them. We the International Order Of Knight Templars have the keys to Immortality. The International Order of Knight Templars has many hidden esoteric keys about ormus , immortality and 2012.

The INsignficance of Things

Modern civilizations and perhaps, all civilizations have made a mission of imbueing significance not only to every individual/ego but also to things around that ego. Significance is a creation, an idea that adds meaning. No two meanings can be the same and while each entity demands a meaning in the 'civilized world', another contradictory idea is also sought after, i.e., the equality of beings. These are inherently contradictory constructs. The more meaning I attach, whether to my self or my surroundings, the further I separate. We assume carelessness, inattention, hatred, destruction in the world as a cry for meaning or utter meaninglessness and care, love, attention, and compassion with meaning and significance. In fact, both are identical phenomena. The kind of love and compassion we usually engage in is created out of utter identification and meaning which inherently opposes the rest of the group/sect/religion/nationality/another whatever we are unidentified with. This sort of living creates only two possibilities - a high and a low. Creation of meaning gives us attachment, which in turn, gives us pleasure and of course, pain. To get rid of the pain, we desperately seek more meaning and more attachment until our life becomes meaningless NOT in the sense that things do not carry meaning anymore but their attachment is so pervasive and strong that detachment is almost an impossibility and yet the threshold of pleasure has become enormously high. So, by its very definition, life becomes a low. Of course, in all our so-called meaninglessness, we are desperately seeking more meaning.

If human existence is inextricably tied to this notion of living, i.e., adding meaning and hence, attachment then, we ought to ask about the notion of dying in our existence. Is there a phenomenon of removing significance and attachment? Not a deliberate detachment - that is simply a form of attachment. But understanding the true insignficance of all things including oneself, is there a listening, a loving, a living with an expansiveness that does not determine or demand one's body, mind, or environment to be at-tension (attention) or in-tension (intention) or feed itself through more meaning? We realize deep down that such a listening and living-at-large is possible for we have all had such moments of bliss. But now we have added tremendous significance to those moments. So to retrieve or recreate them we try hard to love, to listen, to care, to pay attention, to do the "right things." But of course, all such effort adds only more meaning.

Security in Control?

Is this the definition of peace that we really live by? If we can control our environment, the natural and the human world around us and our own thoughts, then we are somewhat in peace? Nations do this all the time, suppressing all voices of dissent, exercising so much domination that no difference can be expressed. We equate differences with division and in order to have peace, we feel we need to deny any difference to express itself for it may create division and hence, insecurity. We feel we must have this security and it can only be achieved via control. It is irrelevant whether such control is brought about via psychological or physical domination for its purpose is the same. But the very nature of control implies RESISTANCE. Whether the resistance is expressed or in repose, control cannot bring about complete security.

The wise amongst humankind have observed that insecurity, impermanence is absolutely certain. We can be certain of the fact that the moment we are born, we will die. The things we accumulate will fade away, the joys, the sorrows that we spend lifetimes in achieving and avoiding will diminish, transform, and die. And yet all this drive to achieve security is simply avoidance of something very certain!

We think our nature is feeling insecure but really our nature is quite secure in the fact that it is impermanent. When it avoids itself is when insecurity sets in, and then the need to achieve security via control. The impermanence of things, feelings, emotions, thoughts, people is CERTAIN and yet all our living is a vain and ridiculous attempt to somehow capture and control things and people and life. Since all of their nature is also impermanent, by the very nature of life, resistance is intrinsic to control and hence, all such seeming security is also false and temporary. One might wonder that if all things themselves are impermanent, what is the problem in creating some measure of control for some period of time even if it is false?

Conceptually, there isn't anything wrong with it. But look at what really happens when we exercise control to achieve security whether within or without. This act does not happen by itself without consequences to oneself and one's surroundings. First, to exercise some measure of control one must physically or psychologically demand suppression of any opposing thoughts/ideas. This demand is exercised in the form of violence whether of thought or action.

This violence roots out innocence within and demands a fragmentation of mind to forget the actions of the past to live in peace in the future. We can observe this ourselves in our lives and also in nations' histories. Of course, such peace is not at all what we dream or try to achieve. We live a lie and that lie manifests itself in wanting to then make amends with the violence. So, we kill a nation, think we "restore peace" and then want to celebrate diversity and freedom under our domineering rule of thought. But of course, while one can make such a demand of one's mind and possibly live a life and fool oneself part of one's life or perhaps, all of one's life, one can't make such a demand of all minds that were suppressed for they have also fragmented themselves in their perception and now see the suppressor as "the other" which no future action of kindness will change. Thus, the basic bond of humanity is broken within by the creation of fragmented selves - that of the past and the future. And thus the seeming peace will wither away by an actively simmering intention of the suppressed to do so!

Every moment affords us an opportunity to examine the demand for control and the power that we seek in every action. Every seemingly unanticipated moment, especially ones that involve loss of money, time, effort, fame, ego but also ones that are involved with the gain of the aforementioned, are moment when we react. The unanticipated does not necessarily demand a reaction, for often the unanticipated is really not completely apprehended, just perhaps, the potential loss or gain which dominates the understanding and elicits an instant reaction.

But losses or gains even when realized in the context of an unreactive mind, may be acceptable as the nature of things without the need to control the situation. A reactive mind is still a reactive mind whether it chooses charm, avoidance, anger, threat, fear, or hope to control the situation. All are forms of VIOLENCE. The violence that is meted out to the surroundings is of course, an expression of what is within lying dormant ready for summons. We often feel that as longs as the object of violence is not us, it is ok and it will bring about peace for us. Perhaps, we are so bold to think that it will bring about peace for also the one on whom our violence is directed for they will be either threatened into peace or lulled into inaction. But can violence ever bring about peace?

Let's examine what are the effects of violence. It certainly brings suffering on the object of violence. The cycle of violence from the POV of the object of violence who then wants revenge and becomes the subject through whom violence emanates, is well studied. So, for a moment let's look at the subject perpetrating the violence, i.e., you and I. During the outpouring, we may feel a range of feelings from mighty, in control, proud, pleased to downright rage depending upon the expression of violence. These range of feelings while somewhat important are not the whole story for they are based on a thought - a principle that has conditioned and continues to condition through repetition that this is somehow those feelings can be experienced and after this experience security or peace will reign. And does that happen?

Even in the seeming temporary rule of peace - one thing is certain. Because one has exercised a modus operandus to achieve an end, immediately the surrounding situation is perceived by the mind as 'the other' on whihc such actions need to be acted upon , otherwise the possible benefits will not be conferred. The outer environment is not friendly, supportive, and the body cannot relax and be in joy in its presence. This is regardless of any moral constraints that one may or may not have which in turn, may add more complications to the mix. Being in some tension around the particular environment, one would after the episode of violence try to make oneself feel better and perhaps, act in ways that can be termed 'friendly" towards the object/environment so that this uneasiness within can be diminshed. But this conscious act may or may not alter the surroundings' response. And even if it does, all such allowances will be a construct; for the memory of how it was brought about remains and any slight perturbation in relationship will throw it back into a challenge.

Thus, wanting control of our environment, we only end up being controlled by it whereas an unreactive mind is not necessarily controlled by its surroundings. It may surrender to what is not with resistance but with complete comprehension that it is the most sensible thing to do and being attached to what was would be unwise!

ThIs Matter of Difference

All differences whether genetic or cultural are derived and can be called derivatives. But whence from are they derived? In the case of genetic differences, we may say zygote but the answer is not quite accurate for where do the differences in the zygote come from? From the egg and the sperm which are itself expressions of difference. If we say generally, from the past; notice that they are not completely identical copies of the past but represent a recombination in a novel way. Same is true of cultural differences. The moment we feel, emote, think, see, touch, recall, hear, taste and speak of derivatives, we must ask the question where is the unity from which this difference has arisen? The singularity of big bang ? Which cannot be modeled?
Every recombination represents something fundamental, something subtle, yet actual - the basis, the ground which has no form except in the expression of a particular form but without which the derivatives are meaningless. So meaning does not exist in the particular but rather what is subtly behind them.

Concretely Abstract

The drone of our lives is a self-creation born out of a lack which creates a need and then a necessity into which senses, thoughts, emotions, experiences, memories, knowledge flow to create a reality so concrete that subtle rhythms of nature (let's call it actuality) appears abstract in the background whenever there is a breakthrough within our reality. In general, actuality seems absent in the midst of a forceful presence of reality continually trying to assert itself. We look around in human history and are amazed at so few individuals having had contact with this subtlety and hence, we deem its presence impossible and separate from us. However, more shocking is how much energy is expended in each moment through each individual's life to maintain the facade of the necessity.

Every strong emotion, action, etc. is created with the rationale that it is necessarily so. Everything we do or feel, we cannot do otherwise. That is what our mind and bodies tell us in the moment. Interestingly if that is truly so, why do we then justify or condemn every such movement? Perhaps, because deep down we are aware of the artificialness of the need created by the thought/knowledge/emotion/experience/memory complex, and hence, as human beings and societies we have created norms with boundaries of how artificial we can be. How far can we deviate from actuality. We thus justify or condemn ourselves to either illustrate that we are within the bounds or accept that we extended them.

If we take a look at why we are hurt, angry, needy, desirous, obsessed, we see that all such emotions have a built-in urgency within that is self-created and unreal and takes us away on an illusory road. What is the urgency born out of? Usually the only time in the actual world, anything is urgent is when there is a threat to the physical survival of the organism. Protection from an actual physical threat is immensely life-affirming - a joyous denial of death. Is this what one is hooked on? Notice that if an organism learns how to cry "wolf" all the time to seek protection, whether there is an actual threat or not, it would soon become insensitive to threats of all kind not knowing when it is actual or not. So, to continue the illusion of threat and hence, feign the joy of survival, strong emotions are accompanied with the created urgency which gives an individual, a concrete feeling of reality and solidity. So even though realistically, if we look at our lives retrospectively, we see so many of those urgencies as false, the urgencies of now - 'I must have this sexual encounter or car or drink', ' I must show this person his place', 'why does she hurt me?', etc. , seem all too real again for they are either accompanied by a solid pleasure or pain and hence, we easily forget that the urgency was merely a creation.

Pride, honor, trust and their counterparts are totally abstract self-created values to perhaps, make communal living easy. However, those abstract values have taken a concreteness so solid that we rarely perceive the emotions they generate as fluid. We feel "betrayed when trust is violated". We are "hurt " because we "expect fairness". The feelings generate such a strong response that sometimes lifetimes are destined and directed on such events. Somehow not only do we not question the existence of such abstraction, but we also expect the existence of such solid concreteness in our children. We teach them to respect the egos of others. We teach them lessons that are completely abstract such as 'treat people fairly', 'don't hurt others', etc. In actuality, life by such humanly devised measures appears completely unfair but they are asked to be fair. They are told not to hurt others, what goes around comes around, etc. completely authenticating the existence of ego unrelated to life's other dimensions.

We cannot have it both ways, we cannot teach our children a number of commandments and expect them to have a relationship with nature. The commandments whether followed or rebelled would create a world of its own - a world of thought and knowledge which will create its illusory reality in which man is given a role to play rather than be a play in nature.

A silent cry from the Ocean of Consciousness

Many readers have mistakenly, and probably due to a cursory reading of the material below, assumed that Mother Earth hints at our destruction as a species in 3-4 years. This is not the case. All She seems to be saying is that around that period the warning that She is giving now will manifest in events that will painfully make it clear that there is something really "big, unusual, and important originating from the level of nature that could potentially have a disastrous effect on the human race. At that moment, the Term "Mother" will take on more of a "real significance" and many will finally suspect and realize that Mother Nature is a BEING of Supreme Divine intelligence of a level that we, Homo sapiens, cannot even remotely fathom. We will start becoming acutely aware that Mother Nature is not a thoughtless, non-conscious machine that has, up to now, obsessed all of our scientist using their restricted intellect, in their attempts to understand Her intricate laws and ways of operations and forces, more often that not in order to gain active control over Her, and skew Her for their short-term benefits. So please do not take this a a message that wants to instill defeatism (if you believe that that Gigantic consciousness would send a direct message at all) and fear in your soul, for that will feed anger and rejection.

An Adjectival Living

We have been told historically, humanity has always sought 'meaning' in life. Meaning being significance, value or purpose. In fact, some scientists define humanity as 'meaning-making beings'. We are told every culture conditions humanity in its prevalent meaning. Sometimes individuals within the culture rebel and create their own meaning and the meaning itself may be undergoing change within cultures at a slower or faster degree depending upon the culture but nonetheless, it seems that all humanity at every point in history has lived life with some form of meaning either created or imposed within or without.

Within every form of meaning lies a measure. If you tell me my life is disorderly, insignificant, great, shoddy, or full, I ask you by what measure? If an individual says, 'I have a good life', his/her own culture or another culture may look upon it and regard it as a 'wasted life squandering resources of the planet for generations to come.'

Some cultures recognizing this dilemma of relativity in judgement attribute the individual with the ultimate measurement of his/her own life provided in exercising such measurement, the individual does not hinder or render the living of other individuals untenable.

There are two problems with this approach. First, the individual's own measure is not original in any sense but a direct function of the the social conditioning and secondly, one society's measure cannot exist in isolation and contradiction with another society's measure. In other words, life on this planet simply as a matter of practicality, would become untenable (as is happening), if societies attribute different meanings to life because they cannot anymore exist in isolation. In fact we have seen that wars on this planet have been basically wars of 'meanings' of different cultures.

Similarly, the inner suffering of humanity as an individual, is also this war of meanings since through out all our lives, our living is not like an automated program tied to one meaning but rather a conglomeration of many meanings some of which come together at different times and create a 'meta meaning' providing us pleasure in an instant and at other times the meanings clashing together bringing us down in sorrow in some instances.

One can clearly see this working not only in an individual, but a society and amongst different societies in the world. So one can have a united states or a european union and also a civil war and a world war or a crusade.

Now seeing that all meaning is essentially made up, is it possible to life a life beyond measure? What does that really mean? Our instinctual response is to allow for all conflcting meanings to exist; e.g., 'can we all not just get along?', 'let's create a world in which you are ok and i am ok', etc. but as mentioned above, such a relative measure is not possible if what you value is opposite to what I value. It isn't simply a matter of allowing you and I freedom and 'respecting' our choices of meanings; for both of us exist in the same space and time.

We can clearly see that the untenable consequences when we have contradictory thoughts trying to rule our mind. In an given instant, we either choose a dominating thought or end up paralyzed and confused. Such is also the case with nations. Two contradictory meanings will eventually create 'new meaning' with a melange of the two to make life tenable for a while or one will dominate and decimate the other.

So merely 'respecting' every meaning which creates its own measure or demanding that all have the same meaning will simply not work even in an individual.

So what is one to do? Seeing the dangers and untenability of any meaning, is it possible to drop all meanings and hence, all measures of life? Can life exist for human beings if it is not an adjectival living - a good life, a shoddy life, a wasted life, a successful life, a brutish life and so on ?

Is meaninglessness, LACK of meaning in the sense of an inadequacy or the challenge and demand of the dangers of meaning?

If we begin with the notion of a fixed nature of humanity with no possibility of change and we are steeped, tied, and burdened with our biological and psychological history, we can only recycle ourselves in time on this planet but if we allow the possibility of an unknown despite the weight of the past and are completely vulnerable to the present, there just might be the potential of the birth of something else - something unknown.

New Tribe - SF Bay Area Buddhism and Meditation

Hey Folks,

I have started a tribe called "SF Bay Area Buddhism and Meditation". When wanting to post about NoCal-specific Buddhist events, I noticed that there was a gap beteen the "SF Yoga" tribe, on the one hand, and all the (location non-specific) Buddhism and meditation tribes on the other.

The blurb I wrote for the tribe description says, "A tribe for discussion of the deep Buddhist and meditation scene in the San Francisco Bay Area. Feel free to post or ask about a teacher or center, to announce upcoming events, to ask for rides and sitting partners, etc. Posting about Bay Area-specific topics of interest to Buddhist oriented people (i.e. things happening with Transpersonal Psychology, Hinduism and Taoism, yoga and martial arts, Eckhart Tolle and Rumi, that sort of thing) welcome also, but a main focus on Buddhism and on Buddhist practice is the intention. ¡Vive le Buddhisme et le trésor triple!"

I invite anyone who lives or spends time in Northern California and with an interest in The Buddha Way to join this new tribe. It's public, so you can just sign yerself right up - http://tribes.tribe.net/sfbaybuddhism

An Action Without a Reaction

Consciousness of all our faculties in action or in repose, i.e., the 'coming together' of senses, thoughts, emotions, memories to come up with a coherent or conflicted state; does that require or demand more energy and if so, where does it come from? We often equate more energy with effort but is that accurate?

First, let's examine the 'coming together' of faculties - whether the response is genetic or social, one thing is for certain - the organism tries to store the past so that a reaction to the present can be regenerated from a quick recall of the past. This is also true in terms of cellular memory stored in differentiated cells stemming from pluripotent cells. This urge to respond quickly - perhaps, a part of our evolutionary past, does it reflect an urgency, a desperation, a time, rather than a mere convenience? We equate quickness or swiftness with survival and hence, believe the desperation or urgency that comes with the demand for a quick response is justifiable.

But do our faculties respond in time? In other words, is there a direction in evolution? If some faculty that is a consequence of cellular memory or a unique structural adaptation which allows an organism to respond quickly to the environment turns out to be a hindrance in a changed environment, will there be a value to further shortening the response of the organism in time? If time is not what the organism is responding to, then what is of value? Is there anything of value? Is it really survival? If it is really survival, then shouldn't there be a similar accelerating process of perfection for survival? But then the ecosystem would totally crumble since the most 'refined' organism at the top of the food chain would be left with no predator and we know, that is not accurate since human beings are completely vulnerable to the 'lowest' organism on the food chain - viruses and bacteria.

We see what seems to be resistance or defiance or struggle to death on the part of an organism but really that could be our perception or interpretation. The brute struggle that occupies the human mind and is hence, attributed to all the nature around us is perhaps, an anthropomorphic projection.

So, for a moment, if we suspend these ideas, and say, that we truly do not know what or how life is and ask instead, if life is not what we think it is, why is it that human thought has this desperation/urgency? After all, are we not part of nature? Have humans always had this? In all ancient cultures? Or is it something new?

Is thought part of nature? If so, does it create things like nature? And if so, why is it that we have no problems distinguishing between objects created by thought and natural non-living things like rivers, mountains, etc. around us, whereas, a computer would have great difficulty in doing so? What is it about thought that comes short of nature as is?

I wonder if thought is really just that - a PART of nature and as such not whole, and hence, represents particular aspects of nature in what it creates. This is why it is neither completely accurate nor completely inaccurate.

Now if we see that nature as is, is unknowable and yet represents a whole, simply on the premise of its historical past (15 billion years) and humankind's participation in it is only 10,000 years or so in terms of the use of thought, we can see that the attempt to continually perceive, apprehend, and control the whole by a part will inevitably come short.

This lack creates a continual resistance, a force, a deep conflict within our consciousness which IS the basis of most of our actions. Our actions are inherently contradictory because they stem from this resistance and hence, eternally energy draining.

So let's get back to the original question. Is there any other mode of action? What is awareness? Is it energy consuming as well?

When there is a realization, a complete realization that we are just a part, i.e., the evaluative mind no matter how clever it can become, it is going to come short and hence, when on ITS own, it quietens, so that a subtle stillness emerges which links with all of one's attention and presence - that is what could be termed as 'awareness'. Now the strange feeling/state of it is that all of one's presence is it and yet it is effortless and requires no force - any movement or action that emerges is completely without resistance. It is like 'love' - it fills up everything and anything so that no-thing is distinguishable and yet does not operate with resistance or force. The whole being is it and yet energy is not drained of one's being. It is a state where ironies and opposites cease to be. It is an action without a reaction.

Is there a relevance to a conscious mind realizing that it is pursuing a falsehood? Does it translate into action controlled by the unconscious, namely, the senses, thoughts, emotions, etc.? Normally, our actions have two possible sources, a seemingly genetic or social conditioning, or as a realization albeit intellectual, which attempts to dominate a contrary urge via reason or justifies an urge via reason.

Now since intellect, senses, thoughts, emotions, memories, reason, associations are all part of this content of consciousness, is there a relationship amongst them? Even the so-called unconscious is part of the content of consciousness. When we look at the word 'relationship', what is it we are looking at? A pattern, a cause and an effect. If I say I am related to you, I mean we have influence over each other. Specifically, this kind of cause and effect that we believe exists is in time, it demands an arrow, a direction.

If the classified things in a closed system begin to affect each other in non-categorizable ways, we may call it random or patternless. What if we observe a cycle? Something affecting other which in turn, affects something else which in turn, say affects back the first thing. We do see stuff like that in the living and the non-living world and we call them cycles or feedback loops. But still in all of that there is a direction, a general trend towards a previous or dynamic equilibrium where the system ca 'hang out' for a while (time) until disturbed by another stressor.

Now in all of this, we assume our minds and bodies are kind of like closed systems affected by things outside. So physically the food we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink, the shelter we have affects our bodies and minds and also psychologically what we are exposed to affects our minds and bodies.

But suppose we are open systems - the kind of outer environment that I gravitate towards or eschew from, physically and psychologically is determined by my inner environment and more importantly, my inner environment in turn, also determines the outer environment.

What is the role of reason and realization in all of this? If I observe a pattern within say, I am addicted to religion, tribalism, nationalism, sex, drugs, food, etc. - the mind that observes and hence, desires to drop the pattern or be free of it is the same mind that derives pleasure from it. We hope that in a given instant, the desire for freedom will outsmart the desire for plesure, and given a number of such small instants, the pattern will weaken over time until there is no decipherable desire for that pleasure.

But what we do observe is two possible scenarios: one is that as the desire for freedom intensifies in time so does the desire for pleasure. Desire is desire - only the intellectual part of the brain has put an adjective in front of desire, the neurochemical part which is more basic to the operation does not make the distinction. This is not ot say that the intellectual fragment has no control. A strong intellectual mind can over power for certain instants and also vice versa, i.e., a strong non-intellectual mind can over power reason for certain instants. So this is one scenario - a constant battle between the two creating psychological conflict, suffering, reprieve from suffering, a seeming freedom from suffering (for the brain cannot linger on to any state ad infinitum) and then back to the conflict. An organism like the human kind, living in such conflict decays to physical death.

Having recognized that, humankind sometimes tries to change the outer environment so radically that one of the options becomes untenable. The idea there is, is despite all the neurochemistry, if e.g., I take away the drugs that I am addicted to and there is absolutely no possibility that I can ever get them, the unconscious neurochemistry will "see" that and the urge and demand will subside or dissolve and freedom will reign. Or the opposite is also attempted, in other words, the idea that hedonism or indulgence to an extreme will literally, root out the urge for pleasure, the so-called 'hitting rock bottom.'

Our lives are mostly these two things - a continual conflict or the attempt to change the outer with the hope that the inner will change. Now on close observation, we can note that even if the pattern dissolves by changing the outer of if there is a temporary reprieve in the conflict cycle, the raison d'etre of the pattern remains unaddressed, and the two possibilities repeat in another specific manifestation.

The other scenario that is rarely observed is that the demand for freedom is strong that it in an instant completely dissolves the pattern WITHOUT ANY EFFORT. The source of the strong demand remains unknown and it does not seem to be a response to the manipulation of the outer environment.

If we attempt to look at this case, in the same way as if to come up with a cause or a set of circumstances on how it is possible with what combination of the outer and the inner, we again run the risk of one part of our brain, namely, the reasoning part wanting to understand the workings of the organism and the outer environment (which are not separate) for the purpose of directing it. This we must see, is meaningless!

For there is no greater intrinsic authority accorded forever to reason over all aspects of the inner and outer environment. All seeming classification is self-categorized by the human mind.

So first, we must see the truth in this - that any self-directed movement be it in the direction of freedom from something or indulgence in something via any aspect of the outer or the inner world is a movement in time based on the presumption that a fragment of the inner human environment or the outer physical and psychological environment is intrinsically and perenially more powerful than others - it is a movement of the more and all evidence we have is contrary to that! Of course, we can temporarily make one aspect more powerful via reward and punishment and that is the basis of our social conditioning. But we must see that such a freedom is only IN TIME which is really not freedom at all.

For the exploration of freedom we mean, we must not observe in terms of this movement of direction, of an arrow in time. Does this mean we are doomed to be? Actually notice that if we were truly doomed 'to be', we would be really free. But we are continually trying to 'become' something. So really freedom is not an action in time. But instead a death of self-directed movement in every timeless now. Such a timeless state is 'free to be.'

AWAKENED DOING

"Consciousness is already conscious. It is the unmanifested, the
eternal. The Universe, however, is only gradually becoming
conscious...Consciousness is the intelligence, the organizing
prnciple behind the arising of form...The unmanifested flows into
this dimension as awareness, inner space, Presence. How does it do
that? Through the human form that becomes conscious and thus
fulfills its destiny. The human form was created for this higher
purpose, and millions of other forms prepared the ground for it.

Consciousness incarnates into the manifestd dimension, that is to
say, it becomes form. When it does so, it enters a dreamlike
state. Intelligence remains, but consciousness becomes unconscious
of itself. It loses itself in form, becomes identified with forms.
This could be described as the desent of the divine into matter...

AWAKENED DOING

Awakened doing is the outer aspect of the next stage in the
evolution of consciousness on our planet...We are in the midst of a
momentous even in the evolution of human consciousness, but they
won't be talking about it in the news tonight. On our
planet...consciousness is awakening from the dream of form. This
does not mean all forms (the world) are going to dissolve...It means
consciousness can now begin to create form without losing itself in
it. It can remain conscious of itself, even while it creates and
experience form. Why should it ontinue to create and experience
form? FOR THE ENJOYMENT OF IT (caps mine)...

There are three ways in which consciousness can flow into wht you do
and thus through you now into this world...ACCEPTANCE, ENJOYMENT AND
ENTHUSIASM (caps mine). Each one represents a certain vibrational
frequency of consciousness...

Acceptance means: For now, this is what this situation, this moment,
requires me to do and so I do it willingly...Performing an action in
the state of acceptance means you are at peace while you do it.
That peace is a subtle energy vibration which then flows into what
you do...If you can neither enjoy or bring acceptance to what you
do - stop. Otherwise, you are not taking responsibility for the
only thing you can really take responsibility for, which also
happens to be the one thing that really matters: your state of
consciousness...

The peace that comes with surendered action turns to a sense of
aliveness when you actually enjoy what you are doing....On the new
earth, ENJOYMENT WILL REPLACE WANTING (caps mine) as the motivating
power behind people's actions...When you make the present moment,
instead of past and future, the focal point of our life, your
ability to enjoy what you do- and with it the quality of your life -
increases dramatically. JOY IS THE DYNAMIC ASPECT OF BEING (caps
mine). When the creative power of the universe bcomes conscious of
itself, it manifests as joy...Joy does not come from what you do, it
flows into what you do and thus into this world from deep within
you...It isn't the action you perform that you really enjoy, but the
deep sense of alivness that flows into it. That aliveness is one
with who you are...

Then there is another way of creative manifestation that may come to
those who remain true to their inner purpose of awakening. Suddenly
one day they know what their outer purpose is. They have a great
vision, a goal, and from then on they work toward implementing that
goal....Enthusiasm means there is deep enjoyment in what you do plus
the added element of a goal or a vision that you work
toward...Enthusiasm brings an enormous empowerment into what you
do...[Enthusiasm] never opposes. It is non-confrontational. Its
activity does not create winners and losers. It is based on
inclusion, nt exclusion, of others. It does not need to use and
manipulate people, because it is the power of creation itself and so
does not need to take energy from some secondary source...
Enthusiasm 'wants' nothing because it lacks nothing. It is at one
with life and no matter how dynamic the enthusiasm-imagined
activities are, you don't lose yourself in them. And there remains
always a still but intensely alive space at the center of the wheel,
a core of peace in the midst of actiity that is both the source of
all and un-touched by all...

A new species is arising on the planet. It is arising now, and you
are it!"

May you be blessed
with all things good.

May your joys, like the stars at night,
be too numerous to count.

May your victories be more abundant
than all the grains of sand
on all the beaches
on all the oceans
in all the world.

May lack and struggle be always
absent from your life
and may beauty order and abundance
be your constant companions.

May every pathway you choose
lead to that which is pure and good and lovely.

May every doubt and fear
be replaced by a deep abiding trust
as you behold evidence of a Higher Power
all around you.

And when there is only darkness
and the storms of life are closing in
May the light at the core of your being
illuminate the world.

May you always be aware you are loved beyond measure
and may you be willing to love unconditionally in return.

May you always feel protected and cradled
in the arms of God,
like the cherished child you are.

And when you are tempted to judge
may you be reminded that we are all ONE
and that every thought you think
reverberates across the universe,
touching everyone and everything.

And when you are tempted to hold back,
may you remember that love flows best when
it flows freely
and it is in giving that we receive
the greatest gift.

May you always have music and laughter
and may a rainbow follow every storm

May gladness wash away every disappointment
may joy dissolve every sorrow
and my love ease every pain.

May every wound bring wisdom
and every trial bring triumph
and with each passing day
may you live more abundantly than the day before.

May you be blessed
And may others be blessed by you.

This is my heartfelt wish for you.

May you be blessed.

The May You Be Blessed Movie
Created by Kate Nowak

Designed to be a meditative experience for the viewer, the May You Be Blessed movie is yours to use. It is my gift to you, from one heart to another, and I not only encourage you to view the movie frequently as a reminder of all the good in your own life, but to pass it along to others, so they, too, may be blessed.

It has been said that it is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. Every time you remind yourself that you are, indeed, blessed — even in those times when you do not see or feel the blessings — you are figuratively lighting a candle in your world. By being reminded that you are blessed and that you are a blessing to others, you succeed in raising your own energy vibration. You feel lighter, freer and happier. And the better you feel, the better those around you feel. In essence, by raising your own vibration, you raise the vibration of others, blessing those around you by your presence and improving world conditions far more than you realize.

Now imagine if these feelings of well-being were experienced by millions of people world-wide, each succeeding in raising his or her own vibration and thus blessing all those with whom they come in contact, as well. The impact on the world could be nothing short of staggering.

To help create such an impact, you are invited to take part in our One Million Blessings in One Hundred Days Experiment. By sharing this uplifting movie with others, you will be spreading the glow to ignite a world-wide flame of blessings. To help facilitate this world-changing process, we've prepared a series of short, daily messages called Heartfelt Blessings and designed to remind you that you are blessed and that you are a candle in the darkness, blessing countless others by your presence.

The Shift

Perhaps you're familiar with the concept of the witness. The witness
is recognized by a shift in the center of gravity, from the temporal
content of Awareness to Pure Awareness itself, from the concept of
identifying as a separate personal ego to the clear and open space in
which feelings, thoughts, and everything else effortlessly arises. In
a sense, this witnessing is upstream from your thoughts and feelings,
although assigning it a location in space and time is impossible. It
is always right at the center and simultaneously underlies and
oversees all phenomena. Witnessing is often suddenly glimpsed and then
apparently lost again. Such a glimpse may feel somewhat like the
surprised and uncertain feeling one gets when first riding a
bicycle. "Hey I'm doing it!" As you may have discovered, this thought
often makes you lose your balance.

The inner body

THE INNER BODY
(excerpt from 'the power of now' by Eckhart Tolle)

. . . but that visible and tangible body is only an outer shell, or rather a limited and distorted perception of a deeper reality. in your natural state of connectedness with Being, this deeper reality can be felt every moment as the invisible inner body, the animating presence within you. So to "inhabit the body' is to feel the body from within, to feel the life inside the body and thereby come to know that you are beyond the outer form.

But that is only the beginning of an inward journey that will take you ever more deeply into a realm of great stillness and peace, yet also of great power and vibrant life. At first, you may only get fleeting glimpses of it, but through them you will begin to realize that you are not just a meaningless fragment in an alien universe, briefly suspended between birth and death, allowed a few short-lived pleasures followed by pain and ultimate annihilation. Underneath your outer form, you are connected with something so vast, so immeasurable and sacred, that it cannot be conceived or spoken of - yet I am speaking of it now. I am speaking of it not to give you something to believe in but to show you how you can know it for yourself.

You are cut off from Being as long as your mind takes up all your attention. When this happens - and it happens continuously for most people - you are not in your body. The mind absorbs all your consciousness and transforms it into mind stuff. You cannot stop thinking. Compulsive thinking has become a collective disease. Your whole sense of who you are is then derived from mind activity. Your identity, as it is no longer rooted in Being, becomes a vulnerable and ever-needy mental construct, which creates fear as the predominant underlying emotion. The one thing that truly matters is then missing from your life: awareness of your deeper self - your invisible and indestructible reality.

To become conscious of Being, you need to reclaim consciousness from the mind. This is one of the most essential tasks on your spiritual journey. It will free vast amounts of consciousness that previously had been trapped in useless and compulsive thinking. A very effective way of doing this is simply to take the focus of your attention away from thinking and direct it into the body, where Being can be felt in the first instance as the invisible energy field that gives life to what you perceive as the physical body.

. . . On the level of the body, humans are very close to animals. All the basic bodily functions - pleasure, pain, breathing, eating, drinking, defecating, sleeping, the drive to find a mate and procreate, and of course birth and death - we share with the animals. A long time after their fall from a state of grace and oneness into illusion, humans suddenly woke up in what seemed to be an animal body - and they found this very disturbing. "Don't fool yourself You are no more than an animal." This seemed to be the truth that was staring them in the face. But it was too disturbing a truth to tolerate. Adam and Eve saw that they were naked, and they became afraid. Unconscious denial of their animal nature set in very quickly. The threat that they might be taken over by powerful instinctual drives and revert back to complete unconsciousness was indeed a very real one. Shame and taboos appeared around certain parts of the body and bodily functions, especially sexuality. The light of their consciousness was not yet strong enough to make friends with their animal nature, to allow it to be and even enjoy that aspect of themselves - let alone to go deeply into it to find the divine hidden within it, the reality within the illusion. So they did what they had to do. They began to disassociate from their body. They now saw themselves as having a body, rather than just being it.

When religions arose, this disassociation became even more pronounced as the "you are not your body" belief. Countless people in East and West throughout the ages have tried to find God, salvation, or enlightenment through denial of the body. This took the form of denial of sense pleasures and of sexuality in particular, fasting, and other ascetic practices. They even inflicted pain on the body in an attempt to weaken or punish it because they regarded it as sinful. In Christianity, this used to be called mortification of the flesh. Others tried to escape from the body by entering trance states or seeking outof-the-body experiences. Many still do. Even the Buddha is said to have practiced body denial through fasting and extreme forms of asceticism for six years, but he did not attain enlightenment until after he had given up this practice.

The fact is that no one has ever become enlightened through denying or fighting the body or through an out-of-the-body experience. Although such an experience can be fascinating and can give you a glimpse of the state of liberation from the material form, in the end you will always have to return to the body, where the essential work of transformation takes place. Transformation is through the body, not away from it. This is why no true master has ever advocated fighting or leaving the body, although their mind-based followers often have.

Of the ancient teachings concerning the body, only certain fragments survive, such as Jesus's statement that "your whole body will be filled with light," or they survive as myths, such as the belief that Jesus never relinquished his body but remained one with it and ascended into "heaved with it. Almost no one to this day has understood those fragments or the hidden meaning of certain myths, and the "you are not your body' belief has prevailed universally, leading to body denial and attempts to escape from the body. Countless seekers have thus been prevented from attaining spiritual realization for themselves and becoming finders.

"Thoughts are friends, not enemies. They're just "what is." They appear. They're innocent. We're not doing them. They're not personal. They're like the breeze or the leaves on the trees or the raindrops falling. Thoughts arise like that, and we can make friends with them. Would you argue with a raindrop? Raindrops aren't personal, and neither are thoughts. It's the meaning you attach to those thoughts that you think is personal. Inquire. Meet them with understanding. Once a painful concept is met with understanding, the next time it appears you may find it interesting. The next time it appears, you may find it funny. The next time you may not even notice it. There will be no attachment. I meet thoughts the way I would meet my children. I met them with love, gentleness, and a quiet understanding. I inquire."

We continue to search until we realize that what we are seeking we already are. You are not a limited entity. You are the clear, knowing presence in which all appearances rise and set. Seeing this, all the imagined problems and doubts fall to pieces. There is no one left to have problems. There is only open, clear, spacious presence-awareness. Know this and be at peace.
since yesterday, I have been reflecting on the movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. I have been looking at where I am stuck in my life and not moving forward and what is holding me back.

Hi everyone,

After a year of reading 'The Power of Now' a few pages at a time, then losing touch with it for months, then picking it up again briefly and putting it down again, I started over from page 1 three weeks ago and have been slowly and deliberately reading a few pages at a time. Well, during a three-hour layover at Salt Lake City's airport yesterday, I finally finished it! Feeling calm and serene, I took a walk through the terminal. I was admiring the art on loan from Utah's Natural History museum when I was stopped in my tracks by a 1,000-year-old Buddha head from Thailand. Through the thick glass, I could my face reflecting in the Buddha's face. I just stood there and stared and meditated and smiled for some time. We are all the Buddha, I said to myself. Everything is.

Today I picked up 'A New Earth' (on CD this time) and am looking forward to starting it tonight. Just wanted to share that with all of you.

Peace,
post-spirituality

has 'now' become yet another concept in our bag of conceptual constructions? if so, then what?

i'm cross-posting this to see what sort of dialogue comes of it. reading this guy is blowing my mind.....

"The end of spirituality is simply the realization that the perspective that seeks resolution is the problem, and this cannot be solved, created as it is by the illusion of separation, which is thought itself.

Without the fragmented perspective that searches, there is no spirituality. The end of spirituality leaves the looking, without the looker. Post-spirituality is the perspective of the looking, a movement without an organized center, without thought as the perspective. But this is not the absence of perspective, nor is it the absence of thought.

Spirituality has claimed a variety of omega points, places of meeting godhead, where the ‘me’ touches transcendence. Post-spirituality recognizes nothing as the meeting point - the perspective is not from the fragment seeking the whole, but rather of the whole expressing as the fragment-in-the-whole.

Spirituality in all its forms, including non-duality, is dualistic; it is a fragment looking for unity. Post-spirituality is non-dualistic, evidenced by the reversal of perspective; the whole is expressing actuality. There is nothing to acquire, there is only the dynamic of creation-imbedded-in-destruction as an unknowable manifestation.

Spirituality has created the idea and the experience of the present, and with that creation has created the past and future as equal but opposite ideas and experiences.

Post-spirituality does not concern itself with any division of time and does not care about maintaining contact with the present moment or any other constructed idea or experience. Post-spirituality is an expression of the quantum reality, which is timeless and therefore free to function in any experience of time or any non-experience of time. Time is a relative dimension and an expression of wholeness, like all relative dimensions.

Spirituality builds itself around self-location, the seeker who attempts to transcend, and the transcendent one who attempts to return to chopping wood and carrying cappuccino. Post-spirituality abandons all myths of self in all its forms and deals directly with the actual self, the manifest self just as it is, giving up all sense of improvement. The actual self is the precise manifestation of the whole.

Without time and location there can be no spirituality; without spirituality there is post-spirituality. Addicted to seeking and desperate for an identity, we may try to convert post-spirituality into something, even a not-something. But, what it is, simply, as the negative, is that it is, without ‘me’. As a positive expression, it is the actual, and actuality is a quantum reality, not a mechanical reality. The quantum reality is the potential for anything, unrestricted by any ideated past, present, or future.

Spirituality has no creative expression. As a conditioned expression of our sense of lack, it is caught in its own promise of fulfillment.

Post-spirituality is without promise; pain and pleasure are phenomenologically identical and aqualitative; fulfillment is a constructed experience; and there are no predictable structures to rely on. The post-spiritual life is entirely creative, because it lives in the unknown. Just as quantum physics has demonstrated the unpredictability of actuality, the post-spiritual sensibility is uncertainty, chaos, and confusion. This is a tremendously vital dynamic, reliant on no particular state, believing in no particular description, and moving as an expression of life."

Light Being Light

I always had the question "are there varying levels of love? isn't love just that? can you love someone more, or less?" I am now experiencing a whole new presence to the questions and answers...

This is what I see:

Now is the only time that exists. It is present to us in direct proportion to our availability to it. Love is the same. We can only love one another as much as we love ourselves. Essentially, by accepting (not excepting) all that is in the moment, we are simultaneously love, loving, and present. We can allow our selves to be the cause of creating being loving. We create the presence by becomingg unified with and inexorably linked and related to everything seen/unseen. No separtion. In order for unity, we become the possibilty of ONE LOVE.
I've had enough suffering in this life. I know the possibilties of fear (finite) are infinite. Reflexively, love is love . I can experience the infinity of love in the eternal moment even within the causal plane of temporary form. Matter changes form. Spirit does not. Any thing that disintegrates is finite. Integration of all. finite and infinite~~~~~this is love. This is immortality. The secret of eternal youth: eternal now.

I love YOU right now!

100 billion points of light
on a living breathing vibrating sphere
travelling through the vastness
learning lessons of love and life and death
recognizing the beauty of creation
feeling the spectrum of emotion
receiving the gift
with each breath

solstice prayers
dear friend
blessed be

"There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening
That is translated through you into action,
And because there is only one of you in all time,
This expression is unique.
If you block it,
It will never exist through any other medium
And be lost.
The world will never have it.
It is not your business to determine how good it is,
Nor how valuable it is,
Nor how it compares with other expressions.
It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly,
To keep the channel open.
You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work.
You have to keep open and aware
Directly to the urges that motivate you.
Keep the channel open.
No artist is pleased.
There is no satisfaction whatever at any time.
There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction,
A blessed unrest that keeps us marching
And makes us more alive than others."
And
For no reason
I start skipping like a child.

And
For no reason
I turn into a leaf
That is is carried so high
I kiss the Sun's mouth
And dissolve.

And
For no reason
A thousand birds
Choose my head for a conference table,
Start passing their cups of wine
And their wild song books all around.

And
For no reason in existence
I begin to eternally,
To eternally laugh and love!

When I turn into a leaf
And start dancing,
I run to kiss our beautiful Friend
And I dissolve in the Truth
That I am.

Does anyone have any good ideas about Letting go of your reaction to someone that is coming from a mind identified state?

my body or my identity becomes shaken up when when an interaction becomes emotionally charged, and i Have hard time dis-identify from it. After these encounters, my mind will go over the situation reapeately like its addicted to it. like its trying to find a solution..

Most of the time its difficult to allow peoples beliefs about me or there attacks pass though me and i end up obsessing over what some did or thought about me. I need help :D

The obstacle of the mind :)

Many of us truth-seekers have been through quite a journey before we realize that enlightenment is not something that the mind achieves.

After I had been through quite much of suffering in my life it came to a point when I couldn’t live with myself anymore. I surrendered to the life and I experienced so-called self-realization and I became aware of the spiritual side of the life. For short time I became free and self-aware, than very soon the ego re-emerged. I made some spiritual mind-based sense of self, in other words in my mind I looked at it as an achievement to have found spiritual truth and I thought I was special :)

Because of that sense of self I became a stone that sunk on the bottom of the river of life in stead of flowing with it. For some time I tried to force myself back into the flow, by reading a lot of spiritual books and by trying some different spiritual practices. I was trying to be free through effort, because from mine perspective enlightenment or self-realization was some conditional achievement.

I am not saying that spiritual practices are bad, that’s not the case at all, they can be used as a wonderful and very helpful tool, as they are meant to be. In my case at that time it was the motivation behind my actions that was the very entrapment I was in, I was on the spiritual path unconscious, because I was trying to be a better man, by unconsciously strengthen my unconsciousness, by strengthening the spiritual mind-based sense of self on the cost of the true self-awareness.

For a few months ago I started observing my self, just watching my thoughts both in meditation and in daily life. Just watching and accepting, NOT judging. Automatically I stopped identify myself with the mind.

The mind-based sense of self (ego) is there and it wants to compare itself to others and it wants to be special, but it isn’t me, that is Not who I really am. I am behind the mind where stillness and love is. From there I can love anybody and anything, even my imperfect ego unconditionally. From my true being I know that we are all equal and somehow I know that everything that happens in the physical plane is all right, I don’t judge it or resist it, all that because I stopped identify myself with the mind and surrendered to life. Incredibly simple and so wonderful !!!. :)

Peace and love :)

Tolle's new book, A New Earth, is absolutely wonderful! I'm reading a few pages out loud every night to my sweetie and we're really savoring it. It's a terrific book to give to friends - very powerful, accessible, simple, interesting...
wouldn't it be great to have a series of cafe's based on The Work...
especially menu items named after the phrases which bring forth the presence of gathering, communing and eating.

Surrender

Hi guys.

I wanted too share with you. Eckhart tolle talks alot about this. Specially in a talk he gave in India, called Touching the eternal(2002)

Surrender to what is. Whatever emotion is now. Let yourself feel what is now. Observe your thinking. I saw this with myself... i'm constantly avoiding the present moment, because there is pain here, thoughts of guilt.

When i let everything be as it is... Give up me trying to change what is now, wanting some OTHER moment then this one. Then there is peace of mind, Bliss. Safety. Love.. A wonderful state of being.. Nothing can get me off balance :)

This is my experience with Doing nothing :) The ego's job description is "DO SOMETHING" When i just accept what is now, there is no "ME"

The Ego is a form of resistance to what is now.

The hard part of realizing the deep nature of self i would say for me.. Letting go of ME, my story. My story of enlightment.

I would enjoy your experiences on surrender here.

Love, Birkir.

I'm planning to host my first set of workshops using a script I wrote almost 15 years ago. I want to get a feel for what sort of schedule would work for people and who might be interested.

This was written to be a four day intensive covering the topic of surivors of trauma and/or abuse. Trauma being defined as anything from surviving sexual abuse or physical abuse to surviving war or natural disasters. In other words anything that could create Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

So here is my question: if you were to take such a workshop would you prefer it to be:
1. weekly, on the the weekends?
2. weekly on week nights.
3. monthly?
4 over one entire long weekend?

"The beginning of freedom is the realization that you are not the thinker. The moment you start watching the thinker, a higher level of consciousness becomes activated. You begin to realize that there is a vast realm of intelligence beyond thought, that thought is only a tiny aspect of that intelligence.

"You also realize that all the things that truly matter - beauty, love, creativity, joy, inner peace - arise from beyond the mind.

"You begin to awaken. Eckhart Tolle, July 2001

These three paragraphs appear before the Table of Contents, this is a perfect summary of what the he and his book is about.

Here's another favorite quote of mine. "Not to be able to stop thinking is a dreadful affliction, but we don't realize this because almost everybody is suffering from it, so it is considered normal."

Attention in the body

I'm the usual meditator who sits down and gets lost in mind dialogue and have to come back to my breath but very easily go back to mind dialoging.

Now I'm trying to put my mindfulness on my breath while the awareness is in my body & then I switch it up to mindfulness on body and awareness of breath. So far I have noticed this allows me to avoid the chitter chatter of the mind alot more then just putting mindfulness on the breath alone, I guess I need somekind of awareness in the background so the mind does not come take that open territory. anybody else meditate in a similar way to this?

When I listen to Eckhart Tolle I find that he mentions putting attention on the energy body as one of the gateways to now. Can we also put attention on inner body (not nessisarily energy body) such as heart beat, muscle contractions etc. and arrive at the same gateway to NOW?

Thanks

I experience the state of no thinking that Eckhart Tolle speaks at different periods throughout my day. It has become so normal for me now that it doesn't feel special anymore.

I still experience painful emotions from time to time and do still have worries etc, this is interspersed with deep peace and knowing. I am living more a feeling existence than a thnking one, that is the best way I can describe it.

My question is does anyone experience anyway similar?

This past Sunday my tire blew out on the highway after a long, hot day at the beach. Tired, sandy and with a car full of kids, I pulled over to change the tire. Whoops, no tire iron, I called a friend who promptly brought me one. I changed the tire to the donut and drove to buy a new one in the morning. No big deal.

Ironically, a day or so later, an old friend called me and the topic of spirituality came up, as did the fact that HE also blew a tire the same day.

His words made me remember how I would have handled the situation a couple of years ago. A tire blowing out on me would have been percieved as "just one more reason why I'm destined to be fucked"... how everything is so hard for me, my luck sucks, etc...etc... spiraling downward into a depression.

Since practicing the Now, not only did the pattern of my behavior change, but I totally forgot about how I would have (and have) reacted to the situation in the past!

I'm wondering if anyone else has a real life example of the way the now has effected them in a particuilar situation.

Love & space,
jack

greetings,

i am listening to the Power of Now again on MP3 (iPod) and I am LOVING it again. Last night I fell asleep with it on hoping to inspire my dream state with his beautiful voice and words.

the recording is like poetry or great ancient scripture that can be listened to over and over again, to hear new meaning.

like a mantra that is working on a sound and vibrational level, I too feel this when i listen to him speak.

Eckhart always stresses how we are not our mind. How the vast wealth of human joy and fulfillment exists outside the boundries of our mind.

I was wondering, does the mind exist in our dreams? When we sleep and dream does the mind continue to rattle, or does it exist only in the present?

hi - just joined this tribe to give a short account of seeing him in person last night at luther burbank center in Santa Rosa.

tolle pretty much did a satsang, only without any long silent spaces. he talks soft and sloooow, with many facial expressions which had the audience in giggles a lot. in fact, the overall impression he left was that he could barely suppress laughter throughout! you gotta like a guru who is snickering *constantly*. i mean, this guy really enjoys himself! deligthful.

Eckhart Tolle redefines meditation with his simple no nonsence techniques for avoiding pain from the past and cravings about the future. He teaches a simple method of remaining in the present -- in the now, where confusion, anticipation and anxiety melt away.

In this group, we'll be talking about his methods, his books, and his tapes.

apathy

Hello friends in the NOW. About a year and a half ago, I came to understand the importance of now and it was magical and has changed me from the inside out. Like many, I came to find awareness after my life situation exploded. The NOW pulled me through and I'm back in school, going to the gym everyday, am a better friend to those around me, etc... however, for the first time in my life, I don't have a clear vision of what I want to do with my life. I went from a VP on Madison Ave and life long shmoozer to someone that is almost offended by commerce in general. I'm working casually, through school and living cheap...but jumping back into the career world doesn't feel right yet.... if it were just me, I wouldn't worry, but as a Father, whose kids will need to go to college someday...it's my responsobility to make the money that they'll need. No one else will do it for them.

After spending so much time reading Buddhist and Eckhart's wonderful teachings... I feel like a much better person... love for all... and a new sense of peace...on the negative side...apathy. For me, being selfless quashes the drive that I always had. Has anyone struggled with this here and found a way around or through it?
Peace, Love, NOW!

NOW integrated

At this point you should be well aware of what being in the NOW is all about. Why you would even want to stop thinking... dwelling on past and future events. And how to put yourself into the NOW moment... at will.

At this point the problem is that it's hard to stay there and even when you do, the benefits may seem mild or non existent. For people at this level here are some tips which prove useful.

Intensity is always important. Try to be intense in your stillness for the maximum effect. Also be aware that the benefit from you meditation session may not be visible for 6 to 18 hours. Watch for it. The more intense your session the more dramatic or visible the benefit when it arrives.

Once you see the correlations between the meditation session and the effect, 6-12 hours later, you're ready for the next step. Rather than structuring your mediations sessions intermittently throughout the day, try to keep a light mediation going ALL day long, from the moment you awake, until you last thought before you fall asleep. By doing this the delay between putting yourself in NOW and the benefits received decrease until you create a cascade of NOW experiences, which further supports the consistent light meditation approach.

collecting karma

One of the problems for beginners is getting some inkling of a real experience indicating that the way your mind operates determines the path of your life. Here is a exerpt from a book I'm writing that may help you put the reins on your rambling mind.

collecting karma:
Your thoughts are like drops of water. They build in weight and eventually, in some way or another, manifest in your life. Thinking uplifting thoughts brings joy, opportunity, and prosperity. Thinking hateful or fearful thoughts creates manifestations of pain, sorrow or poor health. Control your destiny as you control your own hands by learning the habit of positive thinking. The repetitive thoughts, habits and emotions you live with each day are carried through life as debits and credits known as karma. There is karma in everything we do. When it's time to do the dishes, there are two ways they can be done, building karma or losing karma. (c) Paul Townsend

remarkable transformation

The body is indispensible. It cannot be turned off.

The mind can be turned off, and when it is... do you cease to exist? No. What is left is the true self. Don't take my word for it. You must experience this for yourself. Just allow yourself to be open to the possibility... that IF that inner self were put in control of your body... and your life, instead of the mind, there awaits a remarkable transformation.

Listen to your body. Emotions are the bodily manifestations of the interactions between the mind and the self. The mind is the ego and it will fight to stay alive. Who should you believe? The mind or the inner self. Listen to the body. The body will always tell you the truth, even when the mind lies.

where to begin...

For me the major turning point was when I understood and saw exactly what the ego was. For how can you use or manage something unless you can clearly see it. As a life long student of Eastern yoga and philosophy I've been hearing about the wild and ceaseless nature of the mind all my life, but when I read, Eckhart Tolle's book, "Practicing the Power of Now," I realized that the mind and the ego are the same entity. Major changes happened for me then.

Of all the hundreds of books, scores of teachers, musicians, politicians, and comedians I heard, the recording of Eckhart Tolle himself, as he reads "Practicing the Power of Now" stands out far and above as the most enlightened person I have ever heard speak. Unlike other speakers and performers who take you there momentarily, he is there... in that place... in that state of enlightenment while he reads... 100% of the time. Most people learn easier "seeing" someone do something than reading about it. Here you have both. I recommend this recording highly. If you do decide to get this book make sure it is "Practicing the Power of Now" and not just "the Power of Now". There are two. Practicing the power of now is much shorter. 3 hours. Spend three hours listening to this recording and you're be going through positive changes for a week.

I like http://audible.com. Sometimes the Internet treats you exactly how you want to be treated. Here's one of the best 15 minutes segments from the entire 3 hour recording. FREE at audible.com. In fact they they provide audio samples on ALL the audio books they sell. How convenient.

When you get to the http://audible.com site search for "the power of now". Then select, "Practicing the Power of Now." Here you'll see a synopsis of the book. Click on the icon under the book entitled, "Hear Sample" and you'll hear 15 minutes of Tolle that may make your day. You can be listening to this recording in two minutes from NOW.

Where to get books and CD's

Of course you can find Eckhart Tolle's books and CD at http://amazon.com but I myself prefer http://audible.com.

I have a comple of his books in paper, but all the rest are audio files that I got from http://audible.com. If you just want to buy one book outright, you'll save 35% off retail. But a much better deal is their "any 2 books a month for $20." I've been doing that for years. Plus they give you a free MP3 player if you sign up for a year.

Here's a simple way to put yourself in front of some of the best minds of our time. In the comfort of your home, in your car, or when you're out and about.

If you haven't already considered getting a MP3 player, you should. A whole new world of ideas and guidance awaits.
