Wed, April 30, 2008 - 8:53 AMTry looking at anything you're identified with and ask, "Could this really be what I am?" Keep asking until something breaks.

Re: Presence
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 10:01 AMThe interesting thing Tolle points out is that it isn't something you can "break" it's something you simply become aware of. The awareness is what allows it to dissolve over time. Ego identification can no longer strengthen once awareness is brought to it and it gradually weakens and then, dies. This does not mean that personality, inner dialogue or the human "form" of self dies - it instead means that one's identification as *being* that dies and along with it, the disfunction of lthe egoicly driven mind.
Living in the present moment is the practical application of non-egoic awareness. This is why meditative breathwork is taught by Tolle - it trains one to consciuosly remain in the present moment. It's very similar to the Buddhist Vipassana meditative practice of "mindfulness". -

Sun, May 4, 2008 - 2:00 PMB, are you referring to the innerbody awareness? I do that sometimes and it can help, but i find that space consciousness gets me most deeply into the present moment -

Re: Presence
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 11:30 PMYes, innerbody awareness is part of it - it is where one begins to become aware of the "space" between the thoughts and the feelings, which *is* inner space. When one becomes aware of that space - space consciousness arises and as you point out, brings one more deeply into the present moment.
